  5. Variety of Workouts: Some treadmills offer a wide range of workout options, including incline and speed variations, which can help to keep your exercise routine interesting and challenging. This can help to prevent boredom, which is one of the biggest reasons people give up on exercise programs.

Benefits of Using an Exercise Bike

There are many benefits of using an exercise bike – we’ve selected 5 of the most important benefits to share with you.

  1. Improve Cardio Vascular Fitness – because you are moving your body and increasing your heart rate, cycling is a great way to improve your cardio vascular fitness. In other words – it helps to keep your heart healthy. According to the NHS, adults should aim to do 150 minutes per week of moderate intensity activity, or 75 mins of vigorous activity. Using an exercise bike and contribute towards this goal.
  2. Tone Muscles in the Lower body – cycling uses large muscle groups in the legs – quads, hamstrings and calf muscles. Upping the resistance will increase the intensity of the workout and tone the muscles. If you focus on maintaining your posture and keep your core engaged these muscles will be working hard too.
  3. Burn calories – you can burn calories most effectively when you increase your heart rate by exercising vigorously. When coupled with a healthy diet, using an exercise bike can contribute to weight loss or maintenance and a healthy life style.
  4. Low Impact  – When you’re using an exercise bike, the majority of your weigh is support on the seat. This means that, unlike running, the joints in your legs are not bearing the brunt of the exercise. Because cycling is so low impact it is often recommended as post-op rehabilitation for some patients.
  5. Easy to use – exercise bikes are an easy to use option for exercising at home. Our exercise bikes for hire or purchase have exercise programmes included, but there is nothing wrong with simply hopping on and pedalling.

With Christmas and the new year fast approaching, if you were thinking how much physical exercise you should be doing to keep fit and healthy, this may help.

As a rule of thumb, if you aim for around 2.5 hours (150 minutes) of light to moderate aerobic activity per week. That could equate to just 21 minutes every day of the week on a treadmill, every day of the week or 50 minutes of activity three days a week on a rower or exercise bike.

To keep things fresh and interesting, you could mix and match the type of exercise equipment you use to keep up your motivation levels.

Why not try walking or running on a treadmill, cross trainer, bike or rower for at least  10 mins at at time, and hopefully you will very soon see the benefits for yourself and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

As we approach October, the summer holidays are over, and the kids are back at school – you can be forgiven for thinking is it really that time of year already?

With the dark nights drawing ever closer, are you finding it harder to find the time to keep fit, go to the gym or train outside and most importantly, do you have the motivation?

Perhaps as part of your busy daily routine, you can add in extra ways to keep fit and active, such as maybe walking or cycling to work once a week, or getting off the bus one stop earlier and walking home?

While these tips seem like a good idea, with our busy lives, they are not always practical with picking the kids up from school, taking them to after school clubs, cooking tea, helping with homework, the list goes on.

If you feel it would be of benefit, why not consider hiring a treadmill or cross trainer at home, and keep fit at a time that suits you, whether it is first thing in the morning or when you get home from work or the kids have gone to bed.

Don’t let the winter months hold you back from achieving your fitness goals!

Feel free to call us on 0800 043 2148 for some fitness advice.

If you have over done it on your holidays, here are a few tips to get you back into shape without having to go to extreme ways to achieve your fitness goals.

Eat regular meals at the correct time – By eating breakfast after waking up, and again within 3-5 hours, Start your days with evenly spaced out meals which will help replace your blood sugar and your metabolism, starving yourself only causes your body to go into conservation mode, and hang onto excess body fat which is not the desired effect.

Remember to drink lots of water. Aim for about 8-10 cups a day, as this will help your metabolism and can help to curb your appetite. It also makes you feel better and less bloated.

Reduce the amount of carbohydrate, but don’t cut back completely – cutting back on carbohydrates can force your body to use protein for food instead of using it to build your fat burning muscles.

By regular exercise, and following a few simple tips, you should be back to normal in no time at all, ready for christmas!

“Just wanted to give you some positive feedback on my experience so far. I have to say the two gentlemen that delivered my treadmill were very polite, friendly and efficient. Also, I am impressed by the quality of the treadmill, I wasn’t expecting such a good quality treadmill and for it to be brand new too. I have been telling all my friends what a good service I have received and am very happy to recommend your company should anyone want to hire some home gym equipment.”

Home Gym delivered and installed the treadmill within a few days of my enquiry and at a time convenient for us, then when it came to the end of our rental period there was no fuss – they came to pick it up immediately.”
